Laura Watson
Laura Watson lives and works both in bustling downtown Toronto, Canada, and in an old house on a former sheep farm in Prince Edward County on Lake Ontario. She lives with her husband, teenage daughter and a big orange rescued mutt named Red. A childhood spent drawing, painting and making crafts out of kleenex boxes and pipe cleaners led to art school (York University for Fine Art and Sheridan College for Illustration). Since then, Laura has created lighthearted and whimsical illustrations for children's picture books and non-fiction, magazines, puzzles and toys; greeting cards, stationery and textiles; and various home goods and gift products. She works with bright, textured swatches of colour, illustrated vintage type and other collaged elements in a digitally compiled method that still looks hand painted. When not working, Laura loves reading, bird watching, long bike rides and exploring Toronto's many wild ravines with her dog.
